Dr. Bijay Kumar Singh is currently working as researcher in Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group (GEAG), U.P, India. He holds his Master degree and then Ph.D. in Geography from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. His doctoral degree was on Water Resource Appraisal and Management. After completing his degree, he was also associated as part time faculty member from 2006 to 2009 in Deen Dayal Upadhaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur.
As a development professional he has worked with people as a researcher in rural and urban community in different parts of India. He coordinated several international projects like- Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network( ACCCRN) in Gorakhpur supported by The Rockefeller Foundation, wherein he was responsible for vulnerability assessments and facilitated developing the city resilience strategies for the city through multi-stakeholder engagement. Apart this ,one another important project that he taken lead was Sheltering From Gathering Storm project supported by CDKN. This project focused on economics of climate resilient housing as a climate resilient strategy for urban (and peri-urban) poor in the flood-affected areas.
Research Interests/Expertise: Participatory Planning, Participatory GIS, Vulnerability Analysis and Resilience Strategies, Micro-planning, Action Research and Documentation.
